dc.description.abstract This study analyzes developing countries’ progress towards meeting MDG 1, with a focus on hunger and poverty. Based on a sample of 35 developing Asian and sub-Saharan African countries, we examine the relationship between poverty and hunger, using a cross-sectional econometric approach. The second generation of MDGs are also analyzed, based on countries’ experience with the first set of MDGs pertaining to poverty and hunger. This study also analyzes the impact of inequality on GDP growth rates with a formal analysis of the relationship between the GINI coefficient and GDP growth rate. en_US
