dc.description.abstract The study titled “Installation of Environment Friendly Municipal Solid Waste Based Thermal Power Plant for Urban Lahore” was carried out to check the feasibility of production of electricity by installing MSW based thermal power plant along with protective units for Urban Lahore. Purpose of the study was the disposal of MSW using best suitable waste management practice and generation of electricity using MSW as a fuel to meet the current and future demand of electricity for Urban Lahore. The objectives included appraisal of project designed as done in 2008, at sale cost of electricity then (Rs 6.50/kWh) with that in 2019 at current cost (Rs 23 /kWh), repetition of the same exercise after adding the costs of the protective components and final evaluation and comparison of the alternative projects including collection and transport charges. Secondary data was collected from literature available in libraries and different Internet websites. Primary data was collected from different waste management organizations, operational in Lahore. Collected data was computed, projects were cost designed and appraised applying discounted cash flow technique to determine B/C ratio, NPV and payback period of each project indices to decide technical soundness, economic viability and the feasibility of the projects. The results of descriptive research indicated that currently city of Lahore is generating 6000 to 8000 tons of waste per day and its demand for electricity in Lahore is increasing at the rate of 5 to 10% per year. The results of quantitative research indicated that the Urban Lahore that the thermal electricity project with the addition of the protective equipment is technically sound, economically viable and best feasible project and thus appropriate for implementation because it will fulfill 10 % of demand of City of Lahore.. Overall result is that the exploitation of production of electricity of MSW by incineration is quite economically viable, technically sound and economically profitable. The project would be helpful in managing solid waste disposal and meeting current and future energy demands for Urban Lahore. en_US
