Essays Analyzing the Impact of External Migration & Intra-Household Decisions on Investment in Physical and Human Capital

Abstract

The aim of this thesis is twofold. First, to understand the impact of external migration on labor market outcomes and physical investments (for adults) and human capital investments in children (nutritional health of children under 5 years and educational outcomes of the age group 5-17 years) in Pakistan and second, to show how empowered mothers and coresident grandmothers each benefit children’s nutritional health of children under age 5.
