Abstract:
This thesis deals with the knowledge, attitude, and practices regarding the occupational safety standards within the construction industry of Islamabad to identify the factors influencing the compliance and implementation of the said standards. This research was done as part of the Master of Philosophy in Environmental Science and Policy. It studies the existing safety measures and whether they can reduce accidents and injuries at the workplace.
Islamabad's construction industry plays a big part in the economy of Islamabad and faces situations related to occupational safety. Every year several accidents are recorded on the construction sites. This study looks at the reasons, norms and the worker safety knowledge coordination compliance with the standards. As a result, the field study made possible. Data were collected using qualitative methods (semi-structured interviews, focus groups and document analysis) from a wide variety of 150 people which include construction workers, site supervisors, safety officers and project managers.
